NetEnt didn't just give Starburst a new coat of paint. They actually rebuilt the maths under the hood. Same neon gems, same wins-both-ways feel, but now with cascades and a multiplier meter that can finally pay something worth talking about.
The 5×5 grid drops paylines and pays on clusters instead — three or more matching gems touching side-by-side or top-to-bottom. The original Starburst was a low-volatility starter slot. This one sits at medium-to-high and wants you to chain cascades into the Galaxy Star and Mega Star features. When a Galaxy Star lands it changes nearby gems. When the Mega Star fills the multiplier meter, the wins get sharp fast.
We sat with this one long enough to see two solid runs and four dry spells. The dry spells matter — this is not the gentle session the original was. Default RTP is 96.00%, with 94% and 88% versions some casinos quietly use. Max win is 25,000× your bet, hit either through the Galaxy Star Bonanza buy or a base-game multiplier stack. The bonus buy is there if you want to skip the wait, but the base game is honest enough that we mostly didn't bother.
It still looks like Starburst — same chunky gems, same retro space colours — but the music is busier and the screen flashes more on near misses. If you loved the original because it was quiet, this version is not for you. If you loved it because the gems felt good to land, the cluster pays give you that same hit, just more often.
